I think it's probably personal preference...

They're both rubber where it meets the wheel (rubber gaskets on the metal ones). I'm not sure of any difference other than looks (and price).

Metal valves... just for looks

My tire dealer gives free metal valve stems for performance tires he sells. Never saw them before until a few months ago, but they add a nice visual touch to my rims.

Agree w/ Craig- Rubber=practical, metal=styling.

Personal preference really, although the rubber stems only being one piece also make it less likely to have leakage problems too!

Metal caps get stolen too often

I like the looks of metal valve stems. But I much prefer the look of rubber stems and caps instead of metal stems with NO caps, because the damn caps were stolen.

I had a set of caps stolen right from my driveway.

Mean people suck.

JFWIW, CART requires metal valave stems AND caps.
