Will 225/50/16 fit on 7-spoke stock alloys on A4 98-99 sports package?

Will 225/50/16 fit on 7-spoke stock alloys on A4 98-99 sports package?
I think the tires that come with the sports package are 205-55-16. If you were replacing the tires with SP 5000s but wanted to keep the same rims, what tire specs would you get?

Yup...fit fine
did this on my 98.5 A4 2.8 tip sport. Noticeable increase in grip.
If I can't find some cheap, light, strong, nice looking 17's soon, then I'll be putting 225/50/16's on my 99.5 TQMS....

I think you get some more road feel - I don't consider that a down side.
Not sure tread life if different - you actually have less weight per sq inch on the tread. Possible to have hydroplaneing(spelling??) more easily and less traction in snow.

Has anyone tried a 215?
I'm waffling with a 225 because I'm not sure how much I like the wheel sticking out (haven't seen one in person though) but a 215 might be a good compromise. Is a 215/50 or a 215/55 preferable?

Mileage, noise, road surface feedback, on-center crispness, when wet.
I have Dunlop SP-5000 in 225/50/16 size on 16x7.5 wheels. Can't eval tread wear yet...
Bad: My mileage has dropped from 29 overall to 27. Tire noise has increased noticeably but not dramatically. I feel more road surface irregularities. More squirrely on-center freeway tracking. Tend to ski a bit on standing water.
Good: Almost an inch more rubber v. 205/55/16. Much better handling and almost no squealing even when warmed up a bit on twisties. Cheap "plus zero" upgade that uses extant wheels.
Verdict: Not especially practical for a commuter vehicle, but it all depends on how you weigh the handling plusses.
