Default Advice on pressure needed

I have a 2000 S4 with yokohama AVS dB tires in 235/45-17. I have about 1000 miles on the tires which have been fairly spirited driving. I am running 38lbs front and 36 back.

The tires are showing a little chunking on the outside edge of the continuous V centerblock. i.e the outside edge of the center portion of the tire next to the rain channel. This edge which is 90 degrees when new is being chunked or rounded off. The outside treadblock of the tire seems fine.

Does this mean I should lower the pressure?

Default I could be wrong but I think you are running too low pressures.

IF you are an agressive driver - I think you should be in the 41/40 fronts -40/39 rears region.

Default

If they were too low would you not see less chunking in the middle and more on the outside?

Default I am not sure - but the cupping - due to low pressure could cause a wear issue

in the outer portion of the v groves due to the fact that the tire is not flat.

It's just that your pressures vs your driving style do not seem high enough.

Call Eddie to see what he thinks.

Default Hi Gregg. I have almost 1,ooo on mine already and they're wearing fine.

I started with 40 front, 38 rear and worked my way down to the current 38/36. Seems this pressure works best for me too. No wear problems but my driving is a 50/50 mix of highway and local, twisty roads so that could be a factor.

Default I think it was the power slides through the slalom...

The compound is fairly hard and not an all out performance one so I think I just over did it. I will keep my eye on it and if it gets any worse I will try 37/35. Given it central edge position. I can only see it resulting from the tire being to hard and the edge blocks not being in full contact.

Well I am on the road for a week so we shall see.
