Moving from AZ to Madison, WI -- will a tire like the SP5000 be enough for winter, or...

... should I go with a dedicated winter tire? I'm planning on mounting Pilot Alpins -- 205/55/16 on my OE Sport 7-spokers -- but since I'm not familiar with Wisconsin/Midwest winters I don't know what I really <u>need</u>. If I can get away with a winter setup using something like the SP5000 or similiar high performance "all season", I'll go that direction.

I'd say get winter tires...

because chances are, you'll get a big snow storm or two. Depending on where you drive, the streets may not be plowed all that well if it snows all day, and believe me, it will snow all day! I had all seasons on an Accord when I was there, and this one time, I was driving on a road that was angled pretty bad to the side and my car started sliding sideways!

You might get away with all seasons, but I would personally get winter tires.

You're moving here, I wanna' move there! I'm in IL now, went to UW for college... I think I've had enough of snow

Madison's a beautiful city though, nice people too. Good luck!

Yup ... but being from Boulder I never did get used to the lack of seasons in AZ...

... and I'm probably one of the few who actually likes winter and the cold weather.

I'll definitely miss Scottsdale Audi and their "tuner friendly" attitude. I hope Zimbrick Audi in Madison is cool (and can get my S4 Avant).

Thanks Mark ... and, trust me, you don't wanna move here.

Sure it's nice from mid-October to April-ish, but the summers are dreadful and no matter what people say -- "it's a dry heat" or "you get used to it" -- you <b>never</b> get used to it. I've found after ten years here that your tolerence simply grows shorter with each passing year so instead of complaining about the endless 110+ degree days in August, you start bitching about the 100 degree days as soon as they start in May!!!

At least in places like the mid-west, you're not totally stuck in the house all winter. There are always mild days that allow you to get out or whatever. Not true of the summer here ... it's four solid months of dodging the heat.

Anyway, looking forward to Madison (loved my last three weeks there) and appreciate your response. I'm gonna stick with my original plan and mount dedicated winters.
