Default All-Season or NJ Winter Tire Recommedations... (Keep it Cheap!)

Getting time to Take off the Radons...

I have a set of spankin new 01 sports package 10-spokers... Any suggestion as to what all-season or winter tire I should mount for NJ winter use...

With the Quattro, I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with all-season tires only.

Thoughts/opinions?

Since you have summer tires, I'd go full winter (I am...probably Blizzak LM-22 on 16" sprt pkg whls)

Default Not like the "old" Blizzaks...

The LM-22s are H rated, so they should wear well. I had Pirelli W210As (also H rated) the last 2 years and they hardly wore at all. We don't see much snow in Denver, but when I go to the mtns every weekend, the H rated snows do just fine.

If you go all-season, it seems that the SP5000s are one of the top choices of AW readers.

Default I'm a Jersey boy too, and IMHO, I'd prefer to only have 'em for 2-3 seasons and have the grip...(m)

Also, most of the winter only tires wear more quickly than all-season...the compound is one of the reasons why the tires are better in the snow. In my mind, the extra grip when I really need it offsets the slight extra cost...

Plus, you have summer tires, so it's not like you need to use these year-round. I'm going to get mine in mid-November, and keep them on until early March (hey, it's supposed to be 70 degrees this weekend, it can't snow THAT soon, right? Somebody? Could I have a little backup on this?).

Default Think snow tires sooner than later...

A lot of places sold out last year, at least in certain sizes.

Default I'm in NYC, considering Dunlop SP 5000s

Not enough ice and snow in NYC (or NJ) to warrant snows, I think. So I'll probably replace my SP 8000Es with all seasons, and SP 5000 seems to be the consensus pick.

Default What's the difference between the Blizzak MZ-01's and the LM-22's besides...

$10.00 per tire... the tread on the MZ-01 looks more aggressive...

Craig, how do your LM-22s compare to the Pirelli 210's you had?
