18" RIMS, will I have problems as a daily driver with 225/40/18 in New Jersey? Any input is helpful

My friend (another A4 guy) and I both have/had 18's...no BIG problems...(more)
I got a few little bends in the rims, but they were from the entrance to my girlfriend's driveway (almost a curb, ridiculous). They were also VERY soft rims. When I wrecked the car, a couple of the wheels twisted like silly-putty.
My friend has 18" AEZ Radons on his A4, and has NO dings or dents, after 5 months and 10k miles. We both live in North/Central Jersey and commute more than 30 miles, so it's not like we can be extra careful about where we drive.
In short, get decently strong rims, avoid the REALLY big craters, and you should be more or less ok...

Interesting...A set of 18's are en route to me as we speak....how many potholes have you hit, and...
how careful do you really have to be? I'm gonna be driving these in the Boston area, where the roads are known to be rather bad. Not as nasty as NYC or anything, but almost as bad! Are these the kind of conditions you've been driving your wheels in?

Accident and RIMS are a large investment, especially decent ones. Like AEZ, BBS, Oettingers, etc. and to have them dent will make be very dunhappy. 18s are HOT(pimpin) though... and it looks like that is what i will be going with.
