SF Bay Area Quattro Drivers: What are you guys doing for the winter?
Yes, I know this has been discussed before. And yes, I've checked the archives. I'm more interested in hearing what you have done for the winter rather than the whole M/S vs. Winter vs. Summer tire debate.
I'm thinking about storing my 17" wheels and rubber for the winter and putting Dunlop WinterSport M2's or Pirelli A210's on my stock Audi 8-spoke 15" wheels. I'm just not sure how I'll feel about driving around on 15" rubber just to deal with the occasional rain. Rarely do I go to Tahoe or the Sierras as I don't ski, but I was planning on making 1 trip up this winter.
Seems to me, if I'm going to go to 15" wheels I should ditch the Eagle LS tires (they suck big time) and get a set of winter tires that are H rated. The 17" RE730's aren't going to cut it if I decided to head up to the Sierras.

Here's what I'm going to do with my S4 Avant.
I live in the SF Bay Area as well, and usually go up to Tahoe maybe once or twice per winter. I've decided to upgrade to 18" wheels with performance tires for my Bay Area driving and have dedicated winter tires mounted on the 17" stock rims for any jaunts to the snow. I know it's a bit of a pain to switch back and forth, but I figure it takes just one bad move or one idiot SUV driver to mess up your day.

Do you go skiing on your summer tires!?
Adam asked a good question. I ski a lot and I too am looking for a winter tire which would be good for rain and dry road as well...
