Dry performance: Potenza RE040's vs. Dunlop SP5000s?

I've read many posts praising the SP5000s as great high-performance all-season tires. I just wanted some opinions on how they compare to the stock S4 Potenzas (225/45/17) in dry weather performance.

I'm thinking of dumping my RE040s with only 5.7k miles on them since they aren't meant for NJ winter weather.

the 040's will probably be better in the dry or rain but they are not a great tire at all and are uselss in the snow. I have decided not to comprimise and run seperate summer and winter tires, Donlop M2 in winter and RE730 (to be replaced with P Rosso's ) in the summer, the snows onthe stock rims (7,5\\.5 x 17 AVUS, and the summer on 8.5 x17 Ronal R28's)/ If I was doing it again I would get something lighter then the R28/3 and maybe only 8 inches wide as the 8.5 really fill sthe wheel well.
