Nokian Hakka Q gets the job done nicely...
I drove over to a friend's house to drop something off; at this point, there was 14-16" on the ground, and when I got to his house found that he hadn't yet shoveled and had some extra snow in front of his driveway courtesy of the local snowplows. Hit the turn signal, and pulled into his driveway as though it were a sunny summer day. Snow up to the rocker panels. Great!
The Hakka Q's were very sticky on our steep-hilled snowy driveway. Note even the slightest slide. On bits of ice here and there, I'd say they were only a slight step behind the Guardex 600s that I had on my '96 A4Q. In the deep snow, they were equals of the Guardex (and the Guardex are *very* good). And on the dry highway, they're wonderful... miles better than the Guardex were. They're quiet and handle 75mph as good as an average all-season tire, with none of the squirminess that I had gotten used to with the Guardexes... Guardess.... Guardi... oh, you know.
I had been considering a set of Dunlop M2s, but decided to go with a more agressive snow design with the Hakka Q at the expense of dry road behavior, and I'm glad I did; these tires are *way* better than I would've expected on the dry.
