Question for wheel/tire experts. If S6 can fit 255/40 on 17x8 wheel, can you fit 255/35 on 18x8?

I've run 255s on 17x8 and run 255/35s on 18x8.5. Aesthetically, I might look better on an 8.5" rim, but it'll certainly work on an 8".
You'll want to get the right offset to do this. Shoot for something in the 38mm range and roll your fenders.

... Seems strange to me that Audi doesn't follow the recommendations of the tire manufacturers for wheel width of the 255/40-17 on the A6 4.2.
