Re-drilled rims, anyone know the full story (pros and cons)?
I love SSR Comp's, and I plan to purchase a set for track use, but they just don't do it for me as daily street wheels.
I found a set of Volk Racing LE37 wheels that I think look great, and are very light, but they need to be re-drilled for the 5x112 bolt pattern.
So what exactly is re-drilling (besides the obvious). In speaking to a wheel shop in NorCal, they owner said that they basically fill the holes with something, and re-drill the new bolt pattern.
His opinion was that in doing so, you lose the strength of the wheel becuase the wheel was molded with a specific bolt pattern, and you are just filling those holes to create new ones.
I don't know anything about this, so I'm turning to you all.
First off, is he right about re-drilling (i.e. is that the process and are those the cons)?
Second, is re-drilling really that bad?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
