Default Depends..

a 7.5 will result in a slightly taller sidewall, meaning more protection. A 8 will result in a slightly shorter sidewall meaning slightly better traction. Will you notice? I doubt it.
Will it looks much different? I doubt it.

Default Disagree entirely on "...will you notice it..." (more)

I use the stock Avus wheels (17x7.5") in the winter, and have wider BBS (17x8") the rest of the year. The BBS look significantly more aggressive. This is because with the wider wheel, the outside edge of the tire/wheel is now flush with the fender, rather than being tucked under it. Also, by going 1/2" wider, the tire is more squared off where it meats the bead of the wheel rather than rolling back in. I think that it will improve performance as it gives you a slightly wider contact patch, but that is probably not noticeable. I think asthetically is where it makes a big difference.
