Question about wheel weight...
The stock 17" x 7.5" Avus wheels on my S4 weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 27 lbs. each. Now let's assume for the moment that I choose to go with a wheel that weighs roughly half of that (SSR Comp 17" x 8.5"), what kind of differences will I notice? Is the total 50 lb. difference in weight really that significant? Or would I be O.K. if I chose a wheel of similar weight?

IMHO ...

You will notice the improvement in ride.
Don't know if you'll notice these, but
1. The reduction in rotating (and total) weight will improve 1/4 mile times by about 0.1 sec
2. The springs and shocks will have a much easier keeping the tire patch uniformly in contact with the road, improving grip in any corner that isn't billiard table smooth.

I went the other way from 20 lbs to 27 lbs per wheel-->
and have not noticed any negative impact for daily driving. Perhaps the acceleration times are not as quick by a few tenths of a second, but who can tell. From a ride perspective the heavier wheels actually seem to have imporved the ride over tar strips etc in the road--seems to be smoother. IMO I don't think it really matters that much unless you are running at the track.
