What happens if you have mis-matched wheel sizes?

What happens if you have mis-matched wheel sizes?
For anybody who runs 18" wheels on their S4 -- what happens if you get a flat and have to put on the spare? Obviously you wouldn't want to drive far, but would you hurt the car in any way (quattro, suspension, etc...) by going far enough to get repaired?
I realize that the 18's use lower profile tires and so the rolling diameter is fairly close between 17's and 18's. Still wondering if it would be a problem to run the spare.
All of this was prompted by some a$$hole who decided to put a glass bottle underneat my rear tire so I would break it when I pulled away. I didn't get a flat, but I was wondering "what if".
