Default Problems with Sportec wheels, seem to be very bad quality wheel...Buyer Beware!

i've had my 18" HG sportecs for about 5 months and after putting about 6500 miles on them, the finish of the front 2 wheels is fading, they are turning black, the paint is fading off, one of the rear wheels is also beggining to fade, it seems to me that the quality of the paint is very poor, I contacted edge racing 2 weeks ago and still have not gotten a reply, they were very good with contact before the sale of the wheels but after the sale they seem to ignore you, I am very dissapointed with these wheels, i spent a nice amount of $ on them and 5 months later they are deteriorating

i have taken good care of them since i've gotten them, i wash them with the same soap i use on the car, and waxed the wheels twice in the time that i've owned them

any ideas on how i can repair these wheels?

if not then i am just gonna sell the 2 wheels that have not deteriorated yet and get a new set of wheels from a different company

any help would be great

Thanks

Default Crap, that sucks. Did you ever wash your wheels while they were hot or use any "wheel cleaners"?

Just curious since I just got a set. Hope Edge Racing will back up their product. Keep us posted on what happens.

Nope, the wheels were always washed when cool with the soap used on the car

Default yuck! can you post some pictures?

not that this has anything to do with your problems, but you should consider using a dedicated wheel cleaner (like the one p21s makes) to clean your wheels -- they're designed to remove brake dust and other common contaminants that get embedded in wheel finishes.

also, could you post some pictures so we can see the damage (and hopefully suggest solutions)?

Those wheels are pretty cheap price wise for 19"s, what did you expect? =P

Well, that sux, but you could always get them refinished for about $100 per wheel.

Default Similar experience here too...

I posted this before, but the thread got deleted by the edgeracing folks. I was trying to get them to help me with defective tires (and subpar quality Rondell wheels), but never got reimbursed for my out of pocket expenses to fix these problems. I've learned my lesson about buying "cheap" stuff, because you really do get what you pay for. In the long run, you'll spend more on cheap wheels than if you bought good quality wheels to begin with. Stick with quality stuff from BBS, OZ, SSR,etc.

Like you, they were extremely friendly and communicative before buying the wheels/tires, but afterwards, I was on my own. Guess there are other people out there with similar problems. You could have them refinished by a good refinisher, probably $50-$100 a wheel though.
