Default FM901 vs the rest

I am in need of tires (225/40/18), and I cannot afford much. I was wondering how the FM901s compare to the other tires in the price range, such as the Kumho Ecsta 712s and the Sumitomo HRZII. Also, how do they compare to the Dunlop SP8000s? I am concerned much more with dry handling than wet. I don't expect them to perform like a max performance tire, but I just want to know how they hold up against the other ultrahigh performance tires. Thanks.

Default Ditto Petes post below.

We have a test drive coming up on them, but nt just yet. So far looks to be pretty decent. More info will follow once I drive them.

Default I did read it, but it still does not answer my question

I read your post and did a search prior to starting the thread. I am looking for relative not absolute answers. I need to know what you are comparing them against. If I said that the Kumhos I have now handle exceptionally (not the case), it wouldn't mean very much if that is the only tire I have ever used. Have you owned any of the tires that I mentioned in my initial post? If so, how do the new Dunlops compare. I know how my previous tires perform, so I would look to know if I should go with a different tire for my new wheels or not. So far the only thing I have found is Eddie saying they should not be compared with S-03s, which I wouldn't do. I have not found any post comparing them to other tires in the same class.

Thanks.

Default here's a little more on the comparisons....

My previous sets of tires have been:
Yokohama AVS Sports 235/40-17
Michelin Pilot Sports 235/40-17
Pirelli P6000 205/55-16

Granted.... these are not the tires you are comparing to. Anyway, below is my pretzel-logic for buying the FM901.

So, I think I have used tires that are generally considered in a higher league than Kumho Ecsta Supra, Sumitomo HTRZ and Dunlop W-10 (which the FM901 replaces). Therefore, my comparisons are to these tires listed above.

Now, it is generally accepted that Pilot Sports and AVS Sports are better than Ecsta Supra and HTRZII AND I would say that the FM901 is quieter than and grips as well as the Michelin and Yokohama... so, one could assume from that comparison that the FM901 is better than Ecsta Supra and HTRZII.

So, that's all I have to offer until Eddie at Tirerack puts the FM901 up against the Ecsta Supra and HTRZII. My guess is the FM901 will outperform the other in the same class.

Default Thanks

That's all I needed to hear. Those will probably be my next tires then. I will be putting them on 18 inch VZs, too.

Great combination. I'll post pictures of those in a day or two.
