Anyone experienced w. the Goodyear high perf ice tire?
is asking the impossible.
Aside from a different tread compound, it's the heavily siped tread that gives these winter tires most of their traction on snow and ice; and the Goodyear GW is heavily siped. These tires just cannot have the tread block stability of an unsiped high performance dry/summer tire. I'm generally very pleased with my Pirelli 210's, but I can definitely feel the tread squirming around at high cornering g's on dry roads.
Sorry,
All understood. What I need is something like the old Pirelli pre-ice winter tires (with the asm rally pattern), but they are no longer made except in an obscure and incompatible size. The tire I am looking for would have a proper performance carcass and sidewall stiffener, with just a decent tread. Even the high perf. Yok tire would work, but it also is unavailable in the 205/55/16 size. The Dunlop 3 snow would work, but it too is unavailable.
The BFG KDW would be perfect, but they are on natl. backorder until fall.
The BFG KDW is not even an all-season tire, and it's certainly not a winter/ice tire. If they were available, did plan on using these in snow !!??
Also, be careful when using carcass stiffness as a criteria. A tire can be stiff in three different direction -- vertical, lateral, and longitudinal -- and there's pros & cons to being stiff or soft in each.
