16" or 18"?

First post here, need some advice. My car is a '93 S4, and I have a set of the original Fuchs forged 5 spoke 16x8 wheels. I'd really like to refinish them and run them with some decent tires, like maybe Goodyear F1 GS-D3s in either 225/50 or 245/45. My car is lowered with an Eibach/Bilstein Sport setup, I have 2Bennett camber plates, and big rear sway bar.

What I'm wondering is if I should just ditch the 16's and buy some proper 18" wheels. Would I see a noticable improvement in handling?

In my opinion 16s are perfect. More comfortable, better gas mileage, lighter and quicker, cheaper, no potential rubbing issues and no bent rims. Our suspensions are similar. I went 225/50R16s. 17s would be okay, but going to 18s may actually reduce performance. I'm no expert. This is just my opinion and some would disagree.

any closeup pictures? I want to see how much the 225/50's

stick out past the 7.5" wide rim.

I had R7's on my S4 (loved the look) and am now thinking of getting 16's on my A6 2.7t.

17s will make the car a little more responsive.

18s may be overkill.

Here ya go. I bet 17's would look nice on A6 too, since it's a bigger car.

I do think the R-7s compliment the S4, A4 and A6 body styles. Kinda looks, I don't know, tough and sexy at the same time.
