Default Gary@tirerack, Help on offset for 18x 8.5

What is a good offset for a b5 s4 with stoptech 332's in the front and stock in the back? Should the offset be the same front and back?? et40 offset seems to be good as I have seen this on Champion wheels.
thanks for the help in advance

Default Depends on the wheel. If the wheel has a straight spoke design, offset will be lower.

There isn't one general number that can be used for all wheels.

This is driving me crazy. Thanks for the help in the B5 forum I have the HRE's that flair out to much in the front. You seem knowledgeable when it comes to wheels. The Wheels are HRE 543r 18x 8.5 with Michelin PS2, They are not a straight spoke. I though offset would measure from the back of the hub ring to the outer lip of the wheel. The front is identical to the rear as I had them switch them around to make sure. What offset are you running??
thanks

Default I'm running 37 in the front and 32 in the rear.

Offset is actually measured from the back of the mounting hub to the centerline of the wheel. So what is going on with that situation anyway? Are they going to redo your wheels for you. Someone who might be able to help you on the B5 S4 forum is tweaked bluberry. He has 545Rs and one of the Porsche brake kits from ECS.

I called HRE and they said to send them back to them and they could redo the lip to make the offset less. I then told the shop to ship them back. The shop owner 2-3 days later is now telling me HRE said they were going to shave the backpad of the wheel 7-9 mm and he sent them out to do locally. I was very pissed as this doesn't seem to be a good solution, it brings the spokes closer to my brake calipers and also I think it may weaken the hub ring. Anyway I told him to make sure they don't do it, ship them to HRE and if HRE decides to shave them then fine. For $$ I just want them done right.
Thanks for all the help. By the way where you located and very nice ride.

Default Actually that's how mine were done. The thickness of the hub varies to change the offset.

That's why if you look at my pictures the lugbolts on the back seem to be further out than the ones on the front. That's how they give you the additional lip in the back without pushing the wheel past the fender. It's not a big deal as the hub is still pretty thick. You're right about the fact that it will bring the wheel closer to your caliper so you'll have to make sure that the clearance is still there when they shave it down. I still would have HRE do it so if you need work done to them later they won't give you a hassle about you modifying the wheel through another party.

I'm located in Hawaii so this shipping back and forth stuff would be hell for me as shipping costs would be pretty high. I hope you get it all worked out though.

Offset is not dependent on spoke design. Brake clearance is.

That's what I meant, offset required to clear brakes will be lower on a straight spoke design.

Like HIS4 said, offset is secondary, its mostly about spoke design on brake clearance.
