Questions about my tire purchase from the classifieds
I had them mounted on my RS4 replicas over the weekend, and the technician noted that the left rear has a small bulge on the inside sidewall, and I might notice some vibration.
To make a long story short, I do get some vibration above 70 mph. Goodyear won't replace the tire, says that sidewall bulges are due to an impact. He quoted me a price of $226 mounted and balanced to replace it.
1. Would I be reasonable in requesting the seller to refund a portion of the purchase price?
2. How safe is the tire to drive on?
3. Gary, is there a discount I can request from tirerack.com? (tire is 225-40/18)
2. Tirerack prices are discounted - you can check them on the website
3. You should contact the seller.
4. I would not drive on it.
I sold my wheels and tires local - because I did not want to get into issues like this - I wanted my buyers to see what they were purchasing. Lesson - Internet sales have risk.
1. I fully understand that, I'm asking the forum's opinion (Gary is encouraged to respond tho)
2. yup, $173 + shipping. Just was asking if there is an AW code for further discounts.
3. I did
4. For now, I have to. I'll be ordering a new tire on payday
Even if I had viewed the tires locally before purchase, the bulge would not have become evident until installed and aired up. I took the risk and understood what I was doing. Still, with replacing the one bad tire out of pocket, I'll come out a couple hundred dollars ahead.
That said, I didn't let my wife drive the car with the bulge and I'm sure it's not recommended.
You definately should contact the seller about it and try to get some money back, but he might not have known about it (especially if it was on the inside), mine was really tough to see.

Anyway, I'm going to order a replacement next week.... gotta wait until payday.
