Default Questions for Gary @ tire rack

I currentley have a worn out (down to the wear markers) set of Bridgestone S-03 205/50-15's on Borbett type B 15"x7" (see pic of my car below: F.W.D. Audi coupe, 2,400lbs dry! lot's of suspension and brake mods, moderate engine work).

I have found they have a tendency to track very poorly on grooves and uneven pavement, I liked their performance and will use them for the track with the little life they have left in them.

Just bought a set of BF Goodrich "G-force sport V" tires; 215/50-15's, I have a 2nd set of wheels that I'll put them on: 15"x7" Ronal R7's (the Borbettes and both tires were bought from the Tire Rack).

The questions are:
Will the BFG's "tramline" as bad as the Bridgestones??
Will the increase in width make up for the difference in performance (max perf. verses ultra high perf.)
My car is very nose heavy + it's front wheel drive, is 215 to wide for the front (I was easily able to reach the limits of the S-03's on the track)??
How would these tires perform on the track?
what your overal opinion of these tires, I know they're new, so there's not much info on them...
Eventually I'll get a set of "DOT-R" compound tires for the track, what is affordable in a 215/50?? 205/50??

The Gforce sport is a pretty large step down in performance, but should wear a bit longer. The difference in width won't be enough to compensate, but the Gforce sport is fairly inexpensive so the tire is a good bang for the buck.

We haven't had success fitting wider tires on this car unfortunately.

Tires

in general, i believe width and performance directly affect tramlining. wider, higher perf == more.

Default Need more info on this question......

Eventually I'll get a set of "DOT-R" compound tires for the track, what is affordable and effective in a 215/50?? or a 205/50??
Most of them say they need to be shaved, could I drive lightly on the street or highway to break them in??

205/50R15 is the way to go for availability and pricing. You can use them on the street to get them heay cycled in and worn down a bit as an alternative to shaving...if you have the time. If you're just starting out, A032R is a good one to consider. Also consider the Victo V700, but be sure those are below 5/32nds before serious road racing.

Tires
