just bolted up my 19x8.5" bbs rs-gt's to my b5s4 and i have a question..

i'm pretty sure i need longer bolts because it only grabs maybe 5 or 6 threads at most compared to the stock wheels grabbing almost twice that. i'm not sure of the exact number, but it seems about half of what the stock wheels are. does anyone have a suggestion to what i should do? whether it's install studs or just get longer bolts? either way, what size should i purchase?

You are correct.

The seller should have included longer lug bolts. BBS supplies them, about 3mm longer in usable length. We have them in stock, $2 each. Give me a call if you'd like to order a set.

Question: does he need longer bolts because of the width of the wheels,

or is it because of the offset? If not, what is it?

the hub portion of the wheel (where the lug holes are) is thicker than OEM

Right - the bolt holes are not drilled as deep

Probably because they wanted a stronger wheel for some applications.

Drilled or cast ( not sure how they make the holes.)

for safety, generally how many threads should be grabbed to ensure that the wheels are secure?

It varies... I wouldn't try to put a rule of thumb on this one.
