falken rt-615?? searched with no luck
Need to order new tires for my A4 205/55 16's. I occasionally autocross it in a street tire class.
It looks like the azeni r's are being replaced by this new tire the rt-615...its on the discounttiredirect website. Course they don't come in the above size.
Had to search a couple different ways to get the original azenis to come up on the same website...which leads me to believe that those tires my be on their way out.
Falken tires website wasn't any help.
Anyone know what the scoop is on the new tires? Will they come out with a 205/55 16 or equivelent?
The next generation Falken RT-615 has taken its place. We only have
three 16" sizes available- 215/45R16, 225/50R16, and 205/40R16.
Bummer
225/50R16 - wider for more traction, stock tire diameter.
215/45R16 - shorter than stock tire diameter - your acceleration will improve but your odo/speedo will be off for daily driving. Also your fender gap will increase if that matters to you.
205/40R16 - shorter than stock by even more. I autocrossed with 215/40R16 tires on dedicated race wheels, and with the huge change in gearing, my stock car felt VERY similar in acceleration to when I tested a chipped ECU! May not be practical for highway driving though - your cruising RPM will go way up and your odo/speedo will be way off.
I'd suggest going for the 215/45R16 if street-driven. Also consider the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212 - word on the street seems to say that its performing similar to the RT-615. It's cheaper and available in more 16" sizes: http://www.hankooktireusa.com/pdf/uploads/Z212.pdf
