Default Rim Question

Hello,

When I cleaned my car last weekend, I noticed the plastic thing (see attached picture) is missing on one of my rim.

What are they are? Are they crucial? Can it be replaced?

Thanks.

Default Those are wheel weights and yes, they're important

These weights are used to balance the wheels when you have tires put on. Did you have new tires put on recently? If so, it's possible that the old ones were removed and left behind some of the adhesive residue. That may be what you saw. If not, and/or you think you've lost one, you need to get that wheel rebalanced.

If you're going to go for a blancing, it's worth your effort to find a place that uses the Hunter Roadforce balancing system (see URL below). They do a significantly better job than other balancing systems.

Hunter web site (can be used to locate Hunter equipped shops)

Hello you are right. I got new tires recently. But I noticed some weight is one one of the rear right side rim and the other side is gone leaving just the adhesive. Is it normal that they remove one side of the tire weight?

Can the tire weight be put back on the rim if it was determined it was required? Thanks for your help in advance.

Default The quantity of weight (size & number of weights)...

...can and often is different for each wheel. So, there's no telling what might have been there before/what is needed now without having them checked. If you notice any sort of unususal vibration, it may indicated that you did in fact lose a weight that one of the wheels needed.

If you are really concerned, I'd suggest bringing it back to the place that did the tire install and asking them to check the wheel(s) for you. Note that you are concerned given the adhesive indicating that a weight may have fallen off. If they say that it is adhesive from a previous install, tell them they should have removed that when they did their install (which they should have). Otherwise, how do you know if you've lost a weight??

Good luck.

If a whole row of weights that was supposed to be there is missing, it would vibrate BAD at speed.

Thanks very much for the information.

I didn't notice bad vibrations when I am driving at high speed. But I did notice from time to time there is 'squeaking' noise in the cabin maybe from the chair when I made turns etc.

But will definitely check it out.

Thanks for all the help.
