Default what to do with bent 18s

ok so i have these 18" mille miglia emotions, and they came with the car when i bought it. car seemed to run smooth when i drove it, but after a while the vibrations just got worse and worse, had it checked out, and of course all 4 are bent. living in pittsburgh and cincinnati has not been kind to them either. these rims are pretty beat up, bent and curb rash, etc, and i feel like 17 may be a more appropriate size. i dont know if it would even be worth trying to get rid of them though, seeing as they are in pretty crappy shape. should i just drive them into the ground? or does anyone think i would be able to get rid of them fairly easily? any help is greatly appreciated.

Default PLENTY of people out there looking for 18s...

I'd say scrub 'em up, and put 'em for sale "as is" noting that they are bent. If the damage is not too bad (see if you can document in photos), somebody may be willing to take 'em off your hands and have them repaired.

They do look like very nice wheels, but 17" wheels will give you some added protection from damage.

Are they your only wheels? Maybe you get a set of 17"s for winter, get these repaired, and keep them as summer wheels.

Default i have stock 16s for winter

and they suck. the goal is to not spend too much money in this transaction, as the car has much more important stuff that needs tending to. what do you think about selling both sets to pay for 17s with tires that will work all year?

Default All season wheels/tires are definitely compromises...

16" stock wheels make great snows (I've got the 2001 OEM 16" sport wheels that I use as snows). Unless they're damaged in some way, I'd keep 'em as your snows. Tall and narrow tires do better in the winter anyway (I run 215/55R16s on my 16x7" winter wheels).

If you don't think the 18"s can be repaired (worth looking into IMO), then some nice 17x8"s will give you a good summer performance wheel that will handle rough roads better than 18"s.

If none of these options appeal to you, 17" wheels with a good all season tire would be an acceptable fall back. The problem you run into is what width tire to get. I run 235s on my 17x8" wheels and they're great for summer but would suck in the winter because of the width. Again, you'd have to do a compromize like 17x7.5" wheels (exactly what Audi did with their 2002 sport wheels). These compromises are why I'm a fan of dedicated, seasonal wheels.

Default No idea on repair costs. Best bet is to go to the appropriate regional forum

and do a search for wheel repair places. That should turn up somebody near you.

Usually around $125-$150 a wheel for simple repair and paint.

Default it will cost more to fix them than they are worth.........

we had the same problem with Mille's (same one's on my sig), it would have cost me $500.00 to have them fixed. 4 of 5 were bent, and 3 of 5 were scraped. The wheel repair shop gave me $250.00 for them, he repaired them and is still trying to sell them for $500.00.

Default I have a Group Deal going with local Wheels America to redo for $99 each...

They will straighten, fix minor curb rash and refinish each wheel for $99 for ACCCC or ACNA members. Wheels America is a national chain, but I've worked this out with our Chicago location. They did beautiful work on my BBS RX, and have since done several other sets. I have no relationship with them other than being a satisfied customer. They receive wheels from all over the midwest and return via UPS. (shipping is extra.) And you can pick your color including hyper silver and hyper black.

Feel free to email me and I'll get you the contact info.

Default Re: what to do with bent 18s

I would be willing to fix them. I would need a good pic of the wheels to give an accurate estimate. But I will beat any competitors price. And all work performed has a lifetime warranty. If you are intrested please e-mail me at Melho18us@yahoo.com
