So what causes a 'sawtooth pattern' wear on tires?
Background:
There was an oscillating sound coming from my passenger side rear tire. I assumed it was tire noise but it could have been a wheel bearing.
I took it to the dealership to check out, went to a test drive and when the tech turned right the sound went away, turn left or go straight the sound came back. The tech did tell me they would suggest replacing the rear tires to see if the noise goes away or not to rule out tire noise.
He also ran his hand over my tires and said there is a sawtooth wear pattern forming and I had no idea at that point in time what he was talking about.
Anyway... I swapped my winter tires onto the rear and the sound is no logner there so no wheel bearing issues.
So what exactly would cause a sawtooth pattern to form? My rear alignment settings are as follows:
Left: -2.0 camber, 0" toe
Right: -2.0 camber, 1/8" toe
Would 1/8" of toe cause the sawtooth pattern to develop?
TIA for any information.
