Default Whhels and tires

Just purchased my second Audi A6 and this time I wanted to change a few things. It is a 2.8 quattro and I was wondering if someone could tell me the best size wheel and tire package to put on this car that will fit and not rub or scrape when going over a bump or two. Also if anyone knew how to change the back appearance of the car so that the exhaust tips could come through the back. Thanks

Default A few thoughts...

You'll hear different opinions on the questions you ask. Some will tell you to get 19" wheels. I think those people either spend their time dodging potholes or live where there are none. I think 18" is as big as I'd ever want to go for our car. I currently have 17x8" for my summer wheels and think they're perfect. At that size, I run 235 (widest you can reliably run without rubbing) x 45/R17 summer tires.

If you're getting new wheels, I'd recommend keeping your existing OEM ones and using them as snows. That's what I did with my OEM 16x7" sport wheels. I run 215/55R16 winter tires on them (narrow is better in winter to cut through snow, not ride on top of it).

Do a search and you'll see TONS of discussion/debate on this issue.

Regarding the exhaust tips... Do a search for this on Stoney's Links (see my signature for the URL). How it is done has been discussed there. This is also a great resource to know about for MANY A6 questions.

Good luck.
