Would Gary (or anyone else) have opinions on the safety of mounting 17x8 A8 alloys on...
225 45 17 vs. 235 45 17 tires? I've heard there are load rating issues but I don't understand this concept.
I have clearance limitations so the narrower tire would work better even with spacers though the ride quality might be better with the 235.
Also, any suggestions on a light-weight tire in these sizes?

225/45R17 does have enough load for the 1997 A6 and does mount on a 17X8" wheel. I cannot speak specifically to the fitment of the A8 wheel itself on the A6 since we do not sell the OE wheels.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR8&url=/tires/index.jsp">Tires</a></li></ul>
