Nail in tire

OK- so I picked up a nail and hopefully, the tire can be repaired. Anything to watch out for in terms of different manner of repairs, and what happens to the tire's speed rating once it is fixed?

No, no run flat tires for me!

make sure its patched from the inside.... no plugs

Actually, they recommend patch AND plug.
