Preparing to buy winter rims and tires, I need to ensure the rims will fit over big brakes! Help?
I'm going with the popular Porche "Big Black" brakes for my 97 Audi S6, the same calipers from the 95 Porsche 928 GTS. They will be mounted on 12.68" rotors from an Audi A8. One forum post indicated the diameter of the installed setup will be about 14.25", so I'll need a wheel with at least this much inner diameter.

Some people have been able to just barely fit 16" Audi Avus rims over the brakes:

As for what I'm looking to buy, at Tire Rack I was considering going with some cheap "Sport Edition D3" 17" rims with 205/50/17 Michelin X-Ice tires. Does anybody know if these will clear the big brakes? They appear as though the spokes will stay clear, but I want to be sure before I order anything.

And should they not fit, I can buy wheel spacers to push the rims out a bit farther to make it work, correct? My current summer rims are 17x8 OZ Ultraleggera with a 35mm offset, the new rims would be 38mm offset according to Tire Rack.
Thanks. :-)
Additionally, I found a picture of the rims in question installed and from the look of things I think they may work fine.
