In the owners' manual of my '01 TT, it states that (and I'm paraphrasing here) "...due the nature of winter tires, they must be inflated to 3 psi above" that required for other tires. Is this really true? Should I run my winters 3 psi above my summers? The placard on the fuel flap recommends 33f/30r psi, but of course doesn't mention summer or winter.

In general
correct me if Im wrong:
Sidewalls are not as stiff on winter tires and require higher pressure to offer the same rim protection from potholes.
Higher pressure also gives you a smaller contact patch increasing traction in snow

I would say Tire Rack would have recommendations on their website
if they felt additional pressure was important.
But if someone is an aggressive drive - higher pressures would probably give better wear.
