Gary - snow tire question for 18"
I have a new R32 and I'm not sure that my current 17" wheels will fit, so I might have to put a set of snows on 18"s. The current tires are 225/40/18 on 7.5 inch wheels.
What is the narrowest snow tire I can put on and what are my choices?
What would you recommend? I need to be mobile in all types of weather - possibly even before the plows get there....

Don't think you will be able to go narrower on 18" Best suggestion is go 17"
and 205/50/17 or 215/50/17, on 17x7 or 17x7.5 wheel. Then you also open up options for better grip snow/ice tires, like the Michelin X-Ice. (Or if you have a fat wallet my favorite, the Nokian Hakka2 or Hakka4)
Wheels: Tirerack has many 17" wheels listed that fit the '08 R32. My suggestion is to go with fewer spokes for easy snow clearance.. 5 or 6 spoke. Tirerack has a closeout on 17" Sport Edition F2 17x7.5 that fit your R32 for $79 each!
X-Ice in 205/50/17 are $119 each. So $316 for the wheels + $476 for the tires is $792. Add in shipping and you have a fully mounted and balanced winter setup for the R32. Not too bad!
