Default Wheel Fitment question

edit delete
Last week I was able to get a nice set of winter tires for a reasonable price. The tires are 225/55/16 with a 35 offset and a 5 x 112 bolt pattern. My first response to this was to go and check the archives, so after a few quick searches I came to the conclusion that the tires should fit my 2000 a6 2.8. However, when I put the tires on today the front tires "fit", but were very close to hitting the upper control arm. Also the bolts seemed to be a little short(but that is an easy fix).

I would just like to know if I am just being overcautious or if these tires do not fit my car and I was mistaken with my original research

Default My fronts clear the control arm by the thickness of a business card.

The clearance is nearly invisible to the eye, but it is all you need.

Default Update

Well I did some more research about the tire fitment and went to a tire store by my house.

After talking with the resident tire guru I ordered longer lugs and am going to wait until they come in to properly fit and test.

But initial asssement is looking good. There is about 1/4 in clearance between top of tire and upper control arm. The only issue that I am concerned with is tire deformation, but again im hoping its not to crazy.

Default My fronts rubbed when first purchased. The wheels are ...

sold by Tire Rack to fit an allroad?? I created a problem when I put 255/40R/19 on them. They are designed for 245/40R/19. The solution was to add 3mm spacers (3/32"). They have been on for 20k miles now, no problemo. So, from rubbing to fine in 3/32nds.
