Default Gary: A few questions regarding the Goodyear/RunOnFlat tires ... before purchase ..

I have a 2002 225HP Quattro, which obviously didn't come with a TPMS. I'm very interested in putting one in for safety reasons and was wondering which system you'd recommend installing? I was thinking about the Orange retro-fit system that's on the tirerack website, but maybe there are others that I'm unaware of? Preferably I would like to stick the interface box in the glove compartment and just listen for the alert beeps, and occasionally check the tire pressure.... [don't want to mount inside the car for aesthetic reasons]

On that note, I was wondering if installing the Goodyear F1 GS-D3 RunOnFlat would be a good idea on my stock 17" wheels? Is that advisable?

If not, do you have a preference on the GS-D3 or the F1 Asymmetric? My main concern is traction in wet weather, but if the dry weather grip of the Asymmetric is that much better than the GS-D3, I'd considering getting those instead.... otherwise, I think the GS-D3 is better for wet weather?

Ideally, should one expect around 20k miles from these tires? How often should they be rotated?

Thanks for the help

Default stay away from run flats!!

from my personal experience, run flats are terrible. they are also very hard to mount or remove from the wheels due to the very hard sidewalls. if you take it to a regular shop that does not have a corghi machine, your wheels will be scratched up due to the difficulty. just my 2 cents...

Default assuming one can find a corghi machine ....

is it still a pain in the butt to run on?

The part about mounting I don't have a problem with (I'm sure the shop I have in mind can do it .. hopefully ) .....

I'm more concerned about if it's safe to put it on a car that didn't originally have it (paired with a TPMS) ....

Does it hurt the handling much? I was hoping the F1 RunOnFlat would be similar to the F1 (GS-D3)...?

Default It's for a 2002 Audi TT Quattro ... If the F1 RunOnFlat is similar to the F1 GS-D3, then for safety

... I think I'll want to go for the RunOnFlat instead, but I'm not sure how those will fair on a car that originally wasn't designed for that in mind ....

I don't mind having a slightly harsher ride, if the handling of those are still the same/similar to the gs-d3 ....

? any ideas? :P

The Orange system is our current aftermarket system and has worked well thus far, no problem there. This would allow you to safely use runflat tires. If you're using 225/45R17, the GSD ROF would not be among my top choices for runflat tires. If you do decide to put up with the firmer ride of a runflat, consider the Runflat Conti Contact2 SSR. This tire would be a better option in terms of ride and grip vs. the Goodyear.

If you go to a non runflat we've had very good experience and feedback with the GSD3, but very little info on the F1 Asymmetric.

Tires
