Need Tires for my Allroad PNW. Some snow skiing, mostly fun in summer and safety in rain
Maybe a driving school and 1 track day per year as well.
I'm looking for a quiet ride and good tread life.
I have read through Tire Racks reviews and testing information then compared that to Consumer Reports and I'm confused. They don't seem to correspond at all.
Any help greatly appreciated. :-)
I'm reading as many tire tests as I can and they are all so subjective it's nearly impossible to figure out what would be the best tire.
What I'd need to do is try out 6 sets of tires and then buy after I've had experience on them.
I have used Toyo's before and was happy with them on a different car. I have a friend that uses Toyo on his Corvette and swears by them.
I have used Goodyear Wrangler (no highway tires UHP) and locally Les Schwab's selection of truck tires and I've been happy with them.
The Allroad is the first AWD that I've wanted dry handling as well as limited snow handling.
It's always nice to have everything and that's what I'm lokoing for in the Ultra High Performance category of All Season Tires.
The tires I'm looking more closely at are these:
Goodyear F1 A/S
Toyo Proxes 4
Bridgestone RE960AS
Pirelli PZero Nero M+S
Yokohama Advan S4
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
Price will only come into play if I can narrow it down a little.
When in doubt, I go to Tirerack surveys for the specific tire application and then a followup email to Gary@tirerack.com to put all of it in perspective. He has always been helpful with prices hard to beat.
Sometimes your local tire dealer will match Tireracks price and <include> mounting & balancing at no extra charge, as happened to me twice this year (in eastern PA).

I have America's Tire number on my desk to call and see what "they think" ;-) to see if it sways me one way or the other.
They have all the tires I'm interested in so they should give an unbiased answer.
