Gary the tire Guru, would the Michelin X-Ice be good on an allroad?
They will be used in Saint Paul, Mn. I have a set of dedicated winter wheels (18" Voxx Missano). The Michelin X-Ice Xi2, 245/45R18
have a better than prescribed load limit. They are also cheaper by far than all other offerings. Claims are 75% longer wear. What is not to like?

Thanks but no thanks, looks do matter & 17"s handle like a yacht...
As you well know our winter is looong & dry handling is still the majority of that time. (You have to give credit to our plow system.) I ran 19" all season last winter & did alright. Now that thay have over 25K on them & are half worn out I suspect they will be less reliable. So, I recently bought 5, 18" Voxx (26 lbs. ea.) for $450 delivered to my door. J.P. I appreciate your many insights into tires but am still comfortable with plan A.
Also J.P. I know you have run these but I believe this is a new generation isn't it?
My question for Gary is still why are the X-Ice cheaper but supposedly better?

75% longer wear compared to what? Other than that odd claim, this has been a very good ice and snow tire and would certainly be a great choice for a dedicated winter tire.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR8&url=/winter/index.jsp">winter</a></li></ul>
