Rim and Tire upgrade

Im upgrading my B6 from OEM 17's to BBS 18's. Ive been reading alot here on the forums and see mixed sizes. I would like to run 245/40/18's but feel that there would be height issues so I was thinking of going with 245/35/18's; but now feel i will damage my rims. Can anyone give me suggestions on the best option to go with... I am looking for the cleanest look with maximum performance possible. All suggestions welcome.... Thanks...

why not settle for something in the middle, ie. 235/40/18 which is the recommended size anyway?

I was leaning some what toward the 245 series due to a more aggressive and slightly lowered stance that the car currently has... will definitely look into the 235/40 though...
