2005.5 A4 Avant, what size R comp for a 17" wheel?

2005.5 A4 Avant, what size R comp for a 17" wheel?
Wheels are 17x8.5" ET35. Car has OEM sport suspension and will likely stay that way. I don't want to trim or roll fenders, I just want something that bolts on and fits.
Stock tire size is 235-45-17.
I'd prefer to go bigger, and stick with Toyo R888's. Next size up is 245-40-17, but it's exceedingly hard to find. Next size up is 255-40-17 which is readily available and much cheaper than the 245's. Will the 255's fit? They are 1.2% larger around the outside of the tire, just worried a bit about width and the fenders.
