Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus
Was stuck between Michelin'sand Yokohama Advan S4.
Tried the new Michelin PS A/S plus in 235-45-17.
Here are some observations:
The plus:
1)Very good handling, Solid, firm feel. No flex around corner, just solid.
2)Very good steering response. I prefer to run them a little higher that the Audi recommended 36psi- They feel best at around 40psi.
The minus (not real huge problems but you should be aware if it is important to you-it was to me):
1) Not overly noisy but overall noisier than the OEM ContiProContacts(pretty bad tires overall for other reasons-but that is a differnt story). The conti's are load noisy on some surfaces (rough or grooved concrete) but on asphalt etc. are actually better than the Michelins.
Michelins are not horrible on anything but a constant noise as if you are on freshly (slightly sticky) tarred road, or a mud covered surface- a constant hiss/buzz. And real load and rough on certain grooved concrete.
2) Michelins feel slightly (again) rough. You can feel a slight rough tire thread on road vibration through steering wheel-coresponding to the noise. On smooth road feels as if ridding on old rough asphalt.
Gets really noticable at 70-75mph (and up)
(I am easily unaware of speed up to 80-85 on the Conti's but not on Michelins)
3) I also dropped a mile or two per gallon-minor.
Overall I think Michelins have a firmer side wall which is good for handling but transmits a fair amount of noise and high frequency vibration.
The modified V Thread design probably produces some more noise than other thread designs also.
Finally--Pay attention to weight also- Michelins for example are on average 1.5-2 pounds lighter than the Yoko S4's.
I am hoping to get the Yokohama Advan S4's in about 2 weeks. Will update if helpful.
Hope this helps-
