Why is it that when you put stiffer springs in the rear is gets rid of understeer?
FWD cars have to loose as hell! Then all you do is balance the rear with the throttle (throttle steer)!

A stiffer rear spring will decrease grip at the rear and increase grip at the front.
Heavier springrate at the rear will create greater roll stiffness at the rear. Greater roll stiffness means greater weight transfer at that particular pair of wheels. Greater weight transfer means less grip due to tire load sensitivity.
Total weight transfer is unaffected by roll stiffness and since the rears will now have more transfer, the fronts will have less. With less weight transfer at teh fronts, there will be more grip, again due to tire load sensitivity.
(Tire load sensitivity is a characteristic where the greater the load placed on a tire, the lower its frictional coefficient.)
