NASA Racer..how did you guys do in the Enduro..were you able to overtake the pesky Mazda?

I couldn't find your friends car in the paddock..mainly because I don't know what it looked like.

You coming on the 30th..I want to take your money to fund more mods. :-)

 

Saturday night we got a call that my wife's dad was in the hospital and not expected to live through the night...rushed her to SF airport and came back to start packing and she got to LA and found out that he'd passed away

She called in the morning and said to do the race...I was kind of mixed on it but we decided to since one of the last things her dad had said to me was "win one for me!".

Well this (@*(*$#&amp;(*@ Radical motor has this ignition trigger thing that's kludged to the crankshaft and it appeared to have been finger tight when we got the motor and the horrendous misfire it caused when it loosened seems to have damaged a valve (since the timing went progressively out until it completely went dead).

The problem resurfaced during practice and we got it together and it ran fine in warmup and we were settling into our race pace and the plan was to shadow the mazda SR since we knew he had to do a 2nd pitstop...well on the 8th lap the valve decided to introduce itself to the piston...the piston thought it would be a very nice gesture to break the connecting rod which was having so much fun, it thought the crank should also be broken.

We packed up and I was worried about my wife and feeling really bad about her dad and then the race so I told my nephew I didn't want to go back to the hotel so we slogged it out and drove back home...I got home at 4:00am.

The racing part sucked but was sort of incidental to the trauma of the weekend and we're still going through the planning/funeral stuff

Was nice to meet you though, and I briefly saw Krisco.

 

though in reality I'll probably put a stock 'Busa in and use it as a play car...have something in the works which might solve the problem and allow me to "play" with the Radical rather than relying on it as my primary race car.
