Default I'm debating whether or not I want to modify my car anymore. I'm thinking that less mods would be

better for a n00b.

I did two HPDE events with my car bone stock and one with my new shocks and springs. It almost seemed like it was better to learn with the super soft non-sport suspension since it really emphasized what was going on and you could really feel the weight transfer.

I wasn't planning on doing any crazy mods, just wheels and sways but I'm wondering if I should hold off a bit. Do you think you learn more by driving an unmodded car?

Default I'd mod suspension and brakes, but lay off mods that increase power

but then again, I'm a newb as well. Currently have aftermarket suspension and will be putting in a sway bar in the spring. No power mods yet though.

I doubt I'll ever be doing power mods to this car

Invest in a good set of track or ultra high perf tires. That will make a big difference

Default I think you absolutely learn more in an unmodded car (except for the brakes).

A good BBK will prevent fade, which can ruin a fun session. But beyond a BBK, you'd be fine with no mods. You'll have to work harder to keep the pace, but you'll learn how to be smooth that way. At some point, you'll start to feel held back by your equipment, and at that point, it's probably time to consider tires and suspension. But after that, you can probably get a lot of seasons on just those three mods and still have fun while learning a lot.

Default I'm not really looking to go as fast as possible, just to to learn to control the car

I'd much rather track it the same way I drive on the street

Default I did the same. learned on a stock car chipped, then added mods as I "out grew" the stock ____.

track pads are at least necessary with fresh fluid and decent tires.

Default Tires are the most important part of the car...

They affect the acceleration, cornering, and braking.

Default I understand that, but I'm thinking that I want to keep the limits of the car low

track tires seem like they would raise it quite a bit

Agree - hold off on mods until you are being held back by the car
