Wow, thanks to Fox and Speed for picking up Formula 1 until 2009!
Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Fox Sports and its cable network,
Speed, signed a three-year contract with Formula One racing to
provide U.S. television coverage of the world's most watched
motor sport through 2009.
News Corp.'s Fox will broadcast four open-wheel events each
season, including live coverage of the U.S. Grand Prix in
Indianapolis and the Canadian Grand Prix. Speed will have live
coverage of the other 13 Formula One events.
``This new deal will bring unprecedented consistency and
exposure to the North American television audience,'' Speed Vice
President and General Manager Hunter Nickell said in a
statement.
Fox will also air taped coverage in the U.S. of the British
Grand Prix and French Grand Prix. Speed, which was acquired by
News Corp. in 2001, will provide live coverage of qualifying and
practice for the entire season in addition to its race coverage.
News Corp. and Formula One didn't disclose financial terms
of the contract. Formula One, which is managed by billionaire
Bernie Ecclestone, estimates it averages 150 million television
viewers around the world a race.
