what do you want out of the tire? I like Falken Azenis Sports RT615 for the bang for the buck factor
but I may opt for Toyo RA1 next since I now have a dedicated set of track wheels.
If you're just looking for something for DEs and not running in Advanced run groups, this level of tire is all you need.

I'm interested in what people are running and why and what their experience has been.
I do about 4 - 5 track events per year with my car (Laguna Seca, Sears Point and T-Hill). Currently using my street tires (michelin PS2s). Now, looking at getting a dedicated set of lightweight OZ wheels and R compound tires for track use.

I have used Avon, and kumho. Kumhos work well for the $, The avons area good buy also.
I got about 1200-1500 miles out of each. I think I'm going with Toyo, or Hankooks next.

Currently Azenis RT615 - great value as SS says below. More grip than any other street tire I have
tried - the best of these was Michelin PS. But even the Azenis are not a sticky as an R-compound. I did a couple of events on used Dunlop SSR Race tires and liked them a lot. Next for me will be Nitto NT-01's - Toyo RA1s are not available in my size.

Second on the Toyos
They last a (relatively) long time
They have decent stick
Most importantly for driving school type events, they are very consistent from lap to lap. They start at decent stick and end at decent stick. Some other tires start out grippier but after a few laps get greasy and slippery, (esp. on a heavier car like an Audi) which is NOT what you want while learning.
If you run mainly in colder wetter areas, don't even shave them. But if you run much in heat you want them shaved.
I've used them on an Audi A4 Avant and Spec Miata
BTW, I have some old full tread RA-1s mounted on Audi 16" wheels for sale. Probably good for one more year.

Are the Toyo Proxes R888's available in the US yet?
I'm currently using the Nitto's and feel they are very comparable to the RA-1's. Neither is quite as quick as the MPSC's but they aren't as finicky or as expensive either.
