So I am talking with my girlfriend over the phone last night ( I am away at medical school in PR and she is in Tampa). She knows that I am insane over the A4 and she can't stop hearing me talk about it. Even she gets into it once in a while and tells me that she saw an A4 or an A6 driving home, etc...although she gets the A6 and A8 confused- typical. <p>Anyway, she was telling me how she has been thinking of going to work for another company, one in which she could make almost twice as much as she is making now. She went on to tell me how she could buy me a loaded 2.8 and she could trade in her 98 Accord for a new Beetle all without a problem if she switched companies. My heart started racing...wow, what if. I thought it over and what she said was true mathematically. (GRIN)<p>Wow. She meant it too. but the problem is MARRIAGE. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!<br>That would have to happen before I could let this chick buy me a $35,000 car. What girls will do.<p>Before you guys conclude that I am a snob I really am not kidding. She is no millionaire she just works very hard (she is a buyer for a clothing store). I, well, I just study my *** off. And count my lucky stars that she is crazy about me.<p>Ok, enough. You guys probably could care less but to me its a big deal. MY OWN A4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats all...had to get it off my chest. sorry for your time.<p><br>

A marriage is a much more important decision than a car will ever be. Marry this girl if your heart says it is right and leave the car out of it. <p>Your future earning potential is large and before long you will be able to afford an A4 and a new BMW side by side in your driveway. Remember - delayed gratification - that's what higher education is all about. Trust me, I'm just finishing a residency this June and ordering an A4 when I finish.<p>As Dr Ruth would say: You may be driving an A4 for five years but you will be driving this girl for the rest of your life.<p>Patrick C

 

......While I don't have an MD, I'm a clinical psychologist. I have my own home, my own private practice, my own insurance appraisal business, an A4 and an A6 (for the insurance appraisal business). In the Spring of 99, I'll replace my A4 with either a BMW 540i or a V8 A6. I'm 40 and have never been married and don't have any children. I figure I'll get married in the next five years. You are lucky. I got mine and the girlfriend (ath the time) wanted to kick the doors in. Yes, I ditched her. Left town. Got a better job. Now I'm mid-management, doubling my take-home and closer to my S6 than ever. Sorry Jason, the A4 is a great car. The S6 is better. I will always value this site, though.<p>BTW, I took the girlfriend on her first ride shortly after the purchase and she acted like the car was making her sick! <p>
