Brake fading when raining
What's your opinion on my brakes being almost totally useless on the first push on the pedal when driving in the rain ? I always have to pump it a bit before the car starts braking again.
Do you think it's normal ? if it is I don't like it, it's really scary at times.

I think in '00 they added bigger shields. If yours is an earlier model take it to the dealer, they will install the bigger shields.
Although this may or may not solve the problem. A few people have had this. Audi is investigating, but I haven't heard a real solution.
Take it to the dealer first. If they can't help call / write AOA. We need to get this fixed.
If it happened to me I would probably replace the rotors with x-drilled and get aftermarket pads.

It's normal.
I have a 00 model too. Larger shields don't do anything. I changed the pads to Mintex to avoid brake dust, and I have seen not difference in this problem. Others have changed both the pads and rotors to cross-drilled or the slotted variety with no appreciable differences (in some cases it even got worse). The problem has not been traced, as such, no solution. Right now there is only one thing you can do (besides driving safely). File a report with the NHSTA (link attached). I finally got around to doing it last night. They are already investigating, and they will put pressure on Audi to take this seriously and FIND the source of the problem. My A4 is 99.5 and I'll be glad to take it to the dealer and have the bigger shields put on but I already had to sweat to convince them that my cruise control was faulty (it's the pump) that I don't really know how they're going to react.
Shall I file the complaint with the NHSTA in any case ?
