Default Question for you 1.8T er's out there??

I am thinking of geting a 1.8T but I have heard negative things. they say that the 1.8T doesnt feel as solid as the 2.8. I want to do stage 2 upgradeding on it.

but any of you feel the same way, cuz I have driven the 2.8 and it felt great, but is the 1.8 the same or do you have to upgrade suspension for it to be as stable.

any feedback would be appreciated.

Default the sports package is good. and the car heavy enough to be stable in all weather/driving conditions

since i added my sound system, probably about 120lbs, i feel the car is well-balanced, better than any i've driven before. some guys feel his too, even the people i met at at race track - they race with their sub boxes. now since the 2.8 is heavier in front, i think its balance is a bit more off than the 1.8t.

Default not true!

The 1.8T is very stable, and I've driven both the sports and notsports versions.

One difference between the 2.8 and 1.8T in my experience is that the 2.8 feels more nose heavy - somewhat heavier steering feel.

Default Apples to apples (same options in each car) they should both be "solid".

The 1.8T is about 170 lbs lighter in the nose. It feels a little floaty with the stock sport suspension to me, but I doubt the weight of the 2.8 would cure that. I think the problem there lies in the shocks and springs.

Anyway, that feeling is stability is subjective. The 2.8 is a much quieter engine. This lends a luxury feel to the car, which may be interpreted by some as a feeling of "solidity" which you speak of. The extra mass up front changes the steering feel a little as well.

Perceptions are a strange thing, and I wouldn't base your purchasing decision based on what you've heard. Drive the cars, and see what suits your tastes. There are people here who would never buy a 4 cylinder, and there are others here who would have nothing else.

Default My $.02..........

The 1.8tq w/ sport package or suspension mods is incredibly stable. The fact that the front end is lighter doesn't have any effect on the stability IMO. In fact, the lower weight up front makes it more fun to toss around.

You really can't lose either way.

Default The 1.8T is very stable...

with probably a better front/back weight distribution. Also, since you're planning on modding, you'll find the 1.8T path to have more options. The fact that the 2.8 isn't turbo-charged makes it more expensive to achieve noticeable HP gains.

Prior to buying my 1.8T, I swore I'd never purchase a 4-banger 'cause I thought them to be underpowered...I was way wrong.

Good luck. Drive 'em both and then make your decision.

Default if you are refering to only the suspension, they have the exact same suspension...

your probaly comparing a sport-package to a non-sport package. then they would have different springs/shocks. But they are available for both 1.8T and V6... if your talking about engines....ever drove a chipped 1.8T? it will kick a V6 in the butt....
