breather tube broken, could it cause misfires ?
99 Audi 1.8t had random misfire in cylinder 4 changer coil and plug still the same, went to change pcv valve and found destroyed breather tube . Come led this be the cause?

Hi Lando,
Positive. I vividly remember going mad about misfires and jerks when I pulled off the gas a few years ago. The stealership kept my car for two weeks for diagnosis and charged Eur 1,200 for such and such tests (it was all b*****it). They wanted to replace the ECU and the turbo next, but while it was there I came across a post here and told them to just replace the breather tube (which was broken) and the car started running like a champ again. The real cost was something like Eur 26 (6 for the spare, and 20 for the labour), sighs!
So be in no doubt.

Yes - I just changed the crankcase breather last night. part #06A103213F and a pain to get at under the inlet manifold. If that's the same one you are talking about, you need an 'O' ring (N90467301) and a replaced the retaining clip (037121142A). There's a littler PCV valve (035103245G) which I replaced as i had to pull it out to get to the breather pipe. Engine runs smooth again now.
