I have a 2003 Audi TT 1.8T, and i have a check engine light. Shows I need a new thermostat, but the heat works as it should. Also, it reaches and remains at operating temperature, with no overheating. Why would it be saying I need a thermostat?

Could you get the specific engine light code? There's one that has to do with heat versus time. You could be getting up to operating temperature but not in the time that the computer finds acceptable. Usually they're p_ _ _ _.
