Anyone Get Oil Consumption Problem Fixed Under Legal Settlement?
The class action against Audi was finally settled in May (see settlement website), and now dealers will fix the oil consumption problem for free for 2009-2011 A4's with CAEB engines. Has anyone gotten it fixed under this legal settlement? Would like to hear your experience.
A family member has an A4 that burns a quart every 500 miles, and is trying to get it fixed under the settlement, but the dealer is asking her to do a driving test... which is a pain because the dealer is an hour away, and the test requires that you go there twice. Wondering what others have experienced ....
Thanks.

Yes, they need to determine the rate of consumption and will begin repairs thereafter.
At the first visit they're supposed to weigh the oil, do the software flash, change a seal and fit the new PCV system.

I'm not sure that's been determined. IIRC, they claim it changes (probably increases) pressure within the block.
I've had this Stage 1 fix done to my car a while ago. It cut the consumption in half, I'd estimate. I doubt you're looking at anything less than ring replacement and possibly more with the rate you mention.
I don't notice any change in drive-ability following the flash. Some suggest they slightly de-tune the car. Not sure that's true.

My sense, based on my experience w/ other cars (mostly Japanese cars), is that a fairly new car with less than 100k miles should not be burning much oil at all. If I had a Toyota with less than 100k miles that burned a quart of oil every 5k mile oil change, I'd be worried. I guess with Audi A4's (with CAEB engines), maybe I need to adjust my expectations? If the repairs reduce oil consumption to a quart per 5k miles, then call it good enough?

I guess it's whatever keeps you awake at night.
You did say your car needs a quart every 500 miles. That's excessive. I doubt very much Stage 1 fix is going to get your from 500 miles/qt to 5000 miles/quart, if that's what you're thinking.
There are some here that suggest burning an 1/8 qt/10,000 miles is excessive... You do have to draw the line somewhere.

I don't know but:
Stage 1: software flash, new PCV system, seal, oil consumption rate measurement
Stage 2: new rings
Stage 3: engine replacement

Yeah, they don't torture the owners too bad. That stuff is all done on the first visit once the owner expresses a concern.
